We are excited to announce that on February 28, the ABv, in collaboration with Etnofoor, will be co-organizing a thought-provoking webinar on “Utopia”. We are thrilled to feature Yatun Sastramidjaja as our discussant for the evening.
As Fredric Jameson once wrote, it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism. From blockchain to renewable energy projects, Utopian imaginaries are reappearing in both progressive and dystopian forms. This webinar will engage with Utopia as an analytic tool to understand world-making and world-breaking practices across different cultural and political contexts. We will discuss how Utopian ideals shape social movements, fuel conflict, and inspire both emancipatory and (neo)colonial projects.
Sastramidjaja is a scholar at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, specializing in Political and Sociocultural Anthropology. Her research expertise includes political culture and citizenship, repression and resistance, youth activism, protest movements, digital cultures, and heritage and memory cultures, with a focus on Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
This webinar offers a unique opportunity to explore utopia through a critical anthropological lens, so be sure to mark your calendars! More details will follow soon.
